Will Lanterns reveal what happened to previous Green Lanterns on Earth?

## What’s confirmed

Lanterns follows veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) on a murder investigation in the American heartland. It’s an eight-episode HBO series set in the DCU.

## Why fans are wondering

Guy Gardner already exists in the DCU through Superman, played by Nathan Fillion. That means Hal and John aren’t necessarily Earth’s first Lanterns in this universe—but the show hasn’t explained who came first, who is active, or whether anyone disappeared.

## Don’t assume the comics are the answer

The comics have a big lineup of Earth Lanterns, including Alan Scott, Hal, Guy, John, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz, and Jessica Cruz. Lanterns can borrow from that history, change it, or skip it entirely.

## Separate continuities

There’s no announced connection between Lanterns and the 2011 Green Lantern movie or the Arrowverse’s John Diggle tease. Those stories don’t tell us what happened in the DCU.
